Background: The Sellwood Community House has been in operation since 1910 and is the second longest continuously operating community center in the city of Portland. It began life as a YMCA and became part of the Portland Parks and Recreation system in 1920, which operated it as a neighborhood recreational facility until September 2019 when the Friends of Sellwood Community House took the reins. In recognition of its cultural and architectural significance, the Center was approved for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
