Thanks to the approximately 55 people who attended the SMILE meeting on Houseless in Sellwood Moreland on January 4. Two speakers provided interesting informative presentations:
- Cole Merkel of Here Together, a coalition of 250 member organizations, that worked to pass the region-wide Supportive Housing Services measure, and now works to ensure that policy makers deliver the needed services;
- Matthew McCarl of Cultivate Initiatives, a “boots on the ground” organization in East Portland that works alongside neighbors who have been marginalized through a range of supports and services, focusing on workforce development, community health, and housing and shelter.
