Here are the latest events regarding the SMILE Land Use Committee:

New Land Use Chair and Committee Members. At the SMILE Board meeting on June 15, Ellen Burr was approved as the new Land Use Chair and the following members were appointed — Renate Powell, Michael Hayes, Sean Murray, and Eric Miller. Thanks to all of them for volunteering for this important component of SMILE’s responsibilities.

Amendment of Committee Guidelines. At the Board meeting, the Committee guidelines were amended to enable the Committee to review and comment on liquor license applications on behalf of SMILE.

Pending Land Use Reviews. There are currently three land use notices available for review. They can be found by going to the sellwood.org website and clicking on the link on the right which says Land Use Notices in SE Uplift or by going to the following link, http://www.portlandonline.com/BDS/index.cfm?c=42262&. Two of them, 6106 SE 13th and 6404 SE 23rd, appear to be relatively minor but if you have any concerns, please contact Ellen Burr at lily2512@hotmail.com. The other, 2500 SE Tacoma, is the review concerning the proposed Les Schwab Tire Store, which is of more concern and is discussed below.

The Sellwood Bridge Project is now in the final design phase. Consultant teams have been selected to design and build the new bridge. A construction plan is being developed because field work could begin as early as this December.

The construction plan will address issues of interest to the community, such as work hours and noise limits. It will also ensure that people have easy access to construction information.
