Lightrail Community Meeting – Bybee Station Bus Stop Options
Jan 28th, 2010 by paul
Neighbors from Eastmoreland, Reid, Westmoreland and Sellwood gathered at Eastmoreland golf course Thursday January 28, 2010 to discuss Bus Stop Options for the Bybee Street station for the Portland Milwaukie Light Rail Station. Specific topics discussed:
- Option of bus pullouts on the bridge are back on table. Meeting focused on different bus pullout options, including long pullout and short pullout.
- Environmental concerns. Strict interpretation of NEPA rules originally pushed TriMet to remove the bus pullout. Thanks to Mat Milenbach educating Trimet on NEPA, Trimet looking to explore other mitigating items
- SMILE and East Moreland Neighborhood Association strongly advocated for solution that allows bus pullout
- Interesting stat: Peak hour traffic 3500 cars in one direction. ADA says average time for person in wheelchair to exit / enter is 90 seconds. That would push back 1200 feet according to a neighbor. Approx 85 cars/
- Aesthetic issues and environmental issues need to be resolved.
- Neighbors seemed to agree that having a dual sided widening extension would both service bus stops on each side, as well as increase size for safety, including bike access
- Unanimity of concern to Tri Met: Dont have a bus stop without pull out. impact to traffic would be terrible, as well as life safety concerns.
- Trimet listened and is taking the feedback back to the drawing board to both clarify environmental impact, discuss budget impact and other items.
